Karina Alonso (Karang)

Selected Work

Statement

When we refer to a work by the Cuban painter Karina Alonso Ángel “Karang” we can think, on the one hand, of an unmistakable touch that identifies her as an artist and, on the other, of the certainty of having in our hands an exclusive piece.

The work of art is, in itself, the daughter of the author's vision and the context in which it is conceived and therefore transmits a personal value, but, and this is what makes it unique, at the same time it transcends depending on what and how much it makes each person who observes it feel. And before one of her creations, it is difficult to remain indifferent.

Her pictorial work invites us to a journey through dreamlike universes, where stories and characters come to life through a chromatic variety that encompasses both strong tropical contrasts and subtle introspective nuances, even suggesting absolute white with the use of suggestive textures and well-structured compositions.

The protagonists, mostly female, in his works have faces that seem familiar to us, that remind us of so many looks that we may have already encountered. Playing at observing and being observed, at creating a link that facilitates the flow of feelings, a bridge that allows communication.

On the other hand, when abstraction takes hold of the soul, elaborate schemes of contrasts spring forth that give life to unusual contexts in which to become absorbed.

His creation, which does not follow the standards of fashion, is the reflection of a constant experimentation that leads to the continuous discovery of new themes and languages with which to show others his inner world.
